Project Description

The Rexburg URA funded public improvements including street and utility improvements on 2nd East to support development in that area anchored by the construction of a Walmart store and an adjoining strip mall. This project was competed in 1992.

  • Widen bridge to four lanes with median and sidewalks on each side. – $468,000
  • Widen highway south of bridge – $37,000
  • Widen west side of highway between bridge and Horkley’s gas station, including storm drain. – $91,000
  • Water system improvements – $105,000
  • Jogging path along river – $40,000
  • Intersection improvement at highway and Horkley Road including adding street signal. – $433,000

Results

This new development retained about 100 jobs and created approximately 543 jobs for Madison County Residents. The widening of the bridge, street, and the improvement of traffic lighting and the extension of utilities provided opportunities for a number of businesses to locate in the area. They include:
