Project Description

This was a public improvement project in support of commercial development on two blocks facing Main Street. This project was to improve the street and alleys, clear and remove deteriorated buildings, acquire land, improve utilities including water and sanitary sewer lines, to provide an improved environment for new and rehabilitated commercial facilities, to eliminate unsafe conditions, and to otherwise prevent the extension of deterioration and reverse the deteriorating condition of the area.  These improvements were competed in 1998.

  • Installation of traffic signal at 1st West and Main Street – $170,000
  • Replacement and repair of curb and gutter, and sidewalk on Main Street – $20,000

Results

These public improvements helped encourage commercial development of Broulims supermarket and adjoining strip mall including businesses such as Jamba Juice, Hair We Are, Health Mart, New Ride Auto, and Upper Valley Counseling and Resource Center. The old condemned Washington School was also demolished as part of the project.
